Boys basketball: Johnson advances to 8-AAA tourney

MONROE -- The Johnson boys advanced to the Region 8-AAA tournament with a 59-57 win over Lanier Saturday night in the Region 8B-AAA play-in game.

The two team finished sixth and seventh in the subregion and played a one-game playoff for the final spot in the tournament.


Johnson looked to have the game under control with a 47-30 lead late in the third quarter. But Lanier used a 27-12 run over the last 10 minutes to get within the final score.

The Knights were led by Cam Schofield with 17 points. Ty Odem added 14 points and Matt Hollis had 13 for Johnson.

Lanier was paced by Katzney Cham with 27 points.

Johnson next will take on 8A-AAA No. 3 seed North Hall on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at North Hall.
