LOGANVILLE -- Flowery Branch found the going rough Saturday in the Class AAAA North Sectionals but managed to send four to the upcoming Class AAAA state meet.
Falcons' coach Shane Lancaster said they knew it would be tough.
"We knew there were some good teams but Class AAAA was even tougher than we expected," he said. "But I thought we had a pretty good finish."
Few found a tougher road than Nick Lankford (119-pound) who finished seventh in a powerhouse division. He was the state champion a year ago at 103 in Class AAA.
"That may be the toughest division in the state," Lancaster said. "He had a slow start but managed to qualify. I still feel like he can make a run at (a state title)."
Caleb Murphy (130) took sixth, George Kudyba (189) finished fourth, and Johnathon Martinez (275) finished seventh for the Falcons. Zach Cannon (135) will be a state alternate if anyone is unable to make the state meet due to injury.
"Overall we were pleased but we were hoping a couple of guys had done better," Lancaster said. "Still, we're happy with how things went."
