DAWSONVILLE - Bobby C. Hanson, better known as "Ludlow Porch," who turned his knowledge of trivia into a career as a radio humorist, died Friday.
Ludlow got his start in 1971 when Sports Illustrated was looking for trivia experts. The magazine dispatched a writer to visit Ludlow and he came away convinced that his head was full of worthless information, and wrote about it. The article got the attention of WSB radio in Atlanta and he was ask to come on the air. Then, officials at WRNG, also in Atlanta, invited him to visit for a week.
"I came for a week and never left," he once said.
Ludlow was a radio talkshow host for over 30 years having spent a decade as a "Ringmaster" at WRNG, over a decade at WSB where he helped transform the music format into talk radio. In 1994, his program moved to the Funseekers Radio Network which still broadcasts daily.
Ludlow's listeners developed over the years into a legion of "Whackos" who became an integral element in the two-way conversational approach which Ludlow mastered. He always ended his show with his saying, "Whatever else you do today, you find somebody to be nice to."
Ludlow was also an author. His books included "Who Cares About Apathy" and "Fat White Guys Cookbook."
Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 19, at 2:00 at Big Canoe Chapel in Dawson County. He and his wife Nancy moved to Dawson County from Roswell in 1994.
