Boys basketball: GHS takes out Johnson; Knights finish 6th

GAINESVILLE -- The Gainesville boys basketball team defeated Johnson 71-54 on Thursday night in Gainesville.

The Red Elephants were led by Shaquan Cantrell with 14 points and Deshaun Watson with 11.

Johnson was led by Matt Hollis with 20 points, and Cam Schofield with 11.

With the loss, Johnson fell into a tie for fifth in subregion 8B-AAA with Oconee County, but the Knights lost a coin flip to separate the two teams held immediately after the game and will be seeded sixth in the 8-AAA region tournament.

Johnson will take on Lanier on Saturday at Monroe Area in a 6 vs. 7 match-up in a play-in game.
