CUMMING - The University System of Georgia has identified Forsyth County as an underserved region of the state for higher education... but that should change with Wednesday's approval of a new college campus near Cumming.
The Board of Regents approved a request from Gainesville State College and North Georgia College & State University to build a non-residential instructional site on Pilgrim Mill Road off Georgia 400. NGCSU President David Potter said the campus could open as soon as 2012 with a wide range of degree offerings.
Potter said there are still some hurdles to cross before construction can begin, but he said the approval is a big first step toward making the campus a reality.
