FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Trey Thompkins' free throw with 1.4 seconds remaining lifted Georgia to a 60-59 win over Arkansas on Wednesday night.
Thompkins, the Bulldogs' leading scorer at 17.1 points per game, was scoreless in the first half and missed his only shot after two early fouls limited him to just four minutes. The junior scored Georgia's first six points of the second half, finishing with 12, and the Bulldogs never trailed again in snapping a two-game losing streak.
Gerald Robinson led Georgia (15-6, 4-4 Southeastern Conference) with 14 points, and Jeremy Price added 11. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Razorbacks 43-28 and shot 52 percent in the second half after connecting on just 10 of 34 shots (29 percent) in the first half.
Marshawn Powell led Arkansas (14-7, 4-4) with 16 points. The loss was the first of the season in Fayetteville for the Razorbacks, who are now 12-1 at home.
Arkansas led throughout the first half, leading by as many as nine points after a Rotnei Clarke 3-pointer put it ahead 19-10. The Razorbacks took advantage of poor shooting by Georgia in the first half, despite being outrebounded 25-13 in the half.
The Bulldogs had eight second-chance points in the half, with two of those coming on Price's putback that closed the Arkansas lead to 20-18. Powell's dunk put the Razorbacks back up five at 25-20, but Price scored near the end of the half to close the Arkansas lead to 25-22 at halftime.
Thompkins asserted himself at the start of the second half, scoring on a layup to give Georgia its first lead at 26-25. After the quick start, the Bulldogs were tied or led for the remainder of the game.
Arkansas trailed 59-53 after a Thompkins 3-pointer with 3:51 left, but the Razorbacks went on a 6-0 run to tie the game. Julysses Nobles scored Arkansas' final four points, both on drives to the basket.
After Nobles' last basket, Thompkins got the ball inside the lane and was fouled by Arkansas' Delvon Johnson with 1.4 seconds left. Thompkins made the first free throw to put the Bulldogs up 60-59, and after missing his second shot, Nobles collected the rebound and couldn't get a shot off before time ran out.
