Slain girl's family regains custody of other kids

By The Associated Press
CANTON - The sisters of Jorelys Rivera are back with their mother after they were removed from the home when the 7-year-old girl went missing last week.

Attorney John Connolly says Joselinne Rivera and Santos Torres regained custody of their other two children on Thursday. News footage showed the two children reuniting with their mother.

Authorities say Jorelys Rivera was last seen Friday leaving a playground at her Canton apartment complex. Her body was found Monday. An autopsy revealed the girl was sexually assaulted, stabbed and beaten to death.

A maintenance worker at the apartments, 20-year-old Ryan Brunn, faces a murder charge and is being held in a north Georgia jail without bond.

Connolly, who represents Torres, asked for privacy for the family so the two children can live a "normal life."
