Bicycle riding bandit caught in Forsyth County

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville police said the man who used a bicycle as a getaway vehicle in three recent robberies is now behind bars.

Kevin Holbrook with the Gainesville Police Department said 48-year-old Larry Harrison was arrested Monday night in Forsyth County on an unrelated warrant.

He said Harrison swiped cash from registers at Schlotzky's Deli and the pharmacy at Longstreet Clinic on November 14 and then tried to take the Sunday offering from a church member at St. Luke's church the same day.

"Being on the bicycle he was able to get into places that, you know, most vehicles cannot, so therefore, he was able to elude officers," said Holbrook.

Holbrook said that Harrison approached the cashiers at Schlotzky's and Longstreet Clinic and asked for change. When the cashiers opened the registers, that's when the suspect reached over the counters and into the cash drawers and took the money. The victim at St. Luke's was robbed in the church parking lot.

Holbrook said no one was hurt in the robberies.
