BETHLEHEM - Two more people have been arrested in a continuing investigation of neglected disabled adults in Barrow County.
Sheriff Jud Smith said investigators carried out two search warrants in Cambridge Estates subdivision in Bethlehem Thursday. Narquitta Streete and her sister Priscilla Streete were taken into custody and charged in connection with illegally operating a personal care home for mentally ill adults.
"These families [of the patients] were led to believe that their loved ones were going to be cared for when in actuality they weren't. They were being abused mentally and in some cases, physically," said Smith.
Narquitta Streete's husband, Marlo Yarbrough, was arrested a week ago in the case.
All five adults that had been under the care of the suspects are now safe, according to Sheriff Smith.
"We've had an outpouring of support for these people and that was our number one concern...their safety and making sure they were taken care of," said Smith.
The suspects arrested Thursday have each been charged with one count of Giving False Statements to Law Enforcement and four counts of Party to the Crime of Neglect and Exploitation of Disabled Adults.
