CLEVELAND - Federal prosecutors in Ohio have announced a guilty plea by a Forsyth County man described by authorities as the ringleader of a drugs-on-demand operation in several states.
41-year-old James Hazelwood of Cumming faces up to life in prison on his guilty plea Wednesday to a charge of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise. Sentencing is set for Feb. 2.
Authorities say Hazelwood operated companies that were ``pill mills'' illegally dealing in prescription painkillers and anti-anxiety drugs. According to court documents, Hazelwood's organization sought customers through websites, online banner ads, advertising in bathroom stalls at bars, and at a music festival in Miami.
In his plea deal, Hazelwood agreed to forfeit more than $3.8 million in property.
His attorney declined to comment.
