Kitchen fire damages Gainesville apartment

GAINESVILLE - A kitchen fire at Orchard Brook Apartments on McEver Road caused $15,000 damage Tuesday night, the second residential kitchen fire in Gainesville in as many nights.

Gainesville Chief Jon Canada says the call came in about 9:30 and that firefighters discovered a fire in the kitchen in a second-floor unit. However, the fire had already been extinguished by a sprinkler system.

Chief Canada says two adults and a child were displaced by the fire but were not injured.

A kitchen fire Monday night at a house on Riverside Terrace caused $30,000 damage and also displaced a family of three.
