GAINESVILLE - The Hall County School System now expects to lose about $3.5 million this year because of property assessment appeals, more than twice what was projected less than a month ago.
That's according to a report given the school board Monday night by Deputy Supt. Lee Lovett. Lovett, referring to figures received from the county tax assessor's office, said it appears the district has lost eleven percent of the tax digest since last year.
At the board's Oct. 24 meeting, Lovett projected a $1.65 million loss based on appeals to that point.
Also Monday night, Supt. Will Schofield outlined plans for an ad hoc committee that will be formed to review current practices, policies and procedures to ensure students are attending the school they should be, based on where they live.

· The board approved Neil Yarrington as interim principal at Sardis Enrichment Academy for the remainder of the school year. Schofield had said earlier in the day he would recommend Yarrington for the job effective Dec. 1 when Sardis principal Jan Hughes retires. Yarrington has been working in the school system's Special Education Department and is a former principal at Wauka Mountain Elementary School.
