Suwanee City Council meets Thurs. to talk Sunday sales

By Ken Stanford
SUWANEE - Add Suwanee to the list of Georgia cities moving swiftly to approve provisions allowing for Sunday alcohol sales now that voters have given their approval.

The Suwanee City Council will hold a called meeting and workshop Thursday night and of the items on the agenda is to consider an ordinance amendment to "provide for and regulate" the Sunday retail sale of alcoholic beverages. The proposed amendment would allow stores to begin the sales on Nov. 20.

Sunday sales were approved by voters in Suwanee last Tuesday, which was the case in dozens of cities across Georgia. The vote in Suwanee was 1,023 to 341.

City officials in Braselton and Gainesville have already begun working on amending their ordinances and the Gainesville City Council is expected to hold a first reading on its amendment Tuesday morning.
