GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Sheriff's Office Christmas Bicycle Program was established in 1997, in an effort for the Deputies and staff to established greater community outreach. This program is funded solely by donations from Deputies, Staff, Sheriff's Citizens Academy Alumni, and the community.

The main purpose of the program is for every child possible to have something he or she can call their own on Christmas morning, and what better than a brand new bicycle and a helmet? After donations are received, Deputies and Staff purchase as many bicycles as possible with these donations. To locate eligible recipients, the Sheriff's Office contacts area churches, schools, CASA, and the Gateway House to establish contact information of families that may have a need for this program. Families are then contacted and offered the opportunity to participate in the program. Parents are given the option of having the bicycle delivered to their homes or making arrangements to collect the bicycle themselves.

A goal of $10,000 has been set for 2011. It is the hope of the Hall County Sheriff's Office to not only achieve, but to surpass this goal.
