Driving surface replacement planned on I-985 next week

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - Northbound midday traffic out of Gwinnett County on I-985 next week will be squeezed into one lane Tuesday and Wednesday for repairs to the driving surface.

State Department of Transportation crews will be replacing damaged concrete slabs along a one-mile stretch of the interstate between I-85 (starting about mile post one) and the Hall County line.

"This work will create delays on I-985 north and will likely back up traffic to I-85," Todd McDuffie, DOT District Engineer explained. "Our maintenance crew will work diligently to get the work done and get out of the road before the evening commute begins. If everything goes well, we could be out of the road earlier but we want you to know that we do expect delays on the Interstate as the work occurs. No work is planned on I-985 south."

The work will take place each day from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
