Oct. 31 means more than just Halloween for one Gainesville church

GAINESVILLE - Ghosts, goblins and piles of candy are what typically come to mind this time of year. But Oct. 31 holds a special historical significance for more than just Halloween: it marks the anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation and is recognized as Reformation Day.<br /> <br /> Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will mark Reformation Day Sunday, Oct. 30, with a special celebration service at both the 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services. Special guests, the Yonah Brass ensemble, will accompany Good Shepherd's organist, Priscilla Jefcoat, for congregational hymns.<br /> <br /> After the 10:45 a.m. service, children will be invited to participate in Trunk-n-Treat in the church parking lot. Church members will offer candy to trick-or-treaters out of their decorated car trunks.<br /> <br /> The Reformation Day Celebration Services and Trunk-n-Treat are open to the public.
