ATLANTA - One of the oldest lodges in the state park system - the one at Unicoi - has been approved for a major renovation, its first since it was built in 1972.
The state Department of Natural Resources Board of Directors has approved spending $3 million to get the work started.
The lodge, however, needs nearly $8 million in upgrades, according to a recent assessment.
DNR spokeswoman Kim Hatcher said Friday no timeline has been established for the work.
The 100-room lodge - located at Unicoi State Park near Helen - also includes meeting space for up to 1,000 people.
