HCC formally waives late penalties, interest on $88k in back taxes

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Board of Commissioners Thursday night formally agreed to waive $32,059 in penalties and interest on $88,000 in back taxes that was collected in August.

Included was approval of waivers for $8,982 in late penalties and $23,077 in accrued interest.

However, commissioners denied a couple of other requests for waivers.

The one-month amnesty period was proposed by Commissioner Ashley Bell who said the back taxes that were collected "put the county one step closer to balancing the budget. The county now has $88,000 it didn't have before."
