Resurfacing of Ga. 365 expected to be finished by year's end

GAINESVILLE - Georgia DOT can see the light at the end of the tunnel in the massive resurfacing of Georgia 365 between Lula and Cornelia.

"The final driving surface or topping is down in the through lanes on the entire project," Georgai DOT District Engineer Todd McDuffie said. "The top layer has to go down in right turn lanes and median cross-overs from Jaemor Farm Road to SR384/Duncan Bridge Road. Crews expect to complete that work by the middle of next week if the weather cooperates. Once this paving is completed, the only work left is to stripe the roadway. Based on contract stipulations, lane closures cannot occur weekends and temperatures are too cold for overnight work so the balance of the work will occur weekdays. The contractor plans to finish the work before the end of the year."

The resurfacing, which began in late spring, removed up to eight inches of damaged asphalt and lay down a new, smooth driving surface on State Route 365/US 23 from SR 52 in Hall County to State Route 17 in Habersham County.

The 21-mile project was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting of Marietta. The project has a contract cost of $19.2 million. As of September 30, 2011 the project is 81% complete, well ahead of the contract completion date of June 30, 2012.
