Murder charge filed in deadly home invasion

LAVONIA - A suspect now faces murder and other charges in connection with last week's deadly home invasion in Lavonia.

GBI Agent Jim Fullington tells Fox 5 that Caleb Fielding, 29, is also from Lavonia and lived near the victims but the incident appears to have been random.

Fullington said there is no evidence that Fielding knew Jack and Dorothy Vaughn and no evidence that the Vaughns knew him. He said Fielding lived about a block from the Vaughns.

Fullington says Fielding was arrested Thursday night, shortly after the elderly couple was attacked by a man who burst into their house after knocking at their door. He was originally charged only with giving false information to an officer but has now been charged with murder, armed robbery, burglary and aggravated assault.

Jack Vaughn, 88, was beaten to death; Dorothy Vaughn, 87, was also beaten but survived.
