GAINESVILLE -- Fall is peak travel season in northeast Georgia.
Not by coincidence, troopers from the Georgia State Patrol spent Saturday in some of the heavily-traveled areas making their presence known as a deterrent to unsafe driving.
"On Saturday, Oct. 22, Troop B conducted numerous road checks in the northeast mountainous region of Georgia, with the majority of road checks being conducted in Lumpkin and White counties," said Capt. Grady Sanford, Troop B commander for GSP.
"During these road checks, troopers issued 116 traffic citations, 71 warnings and arrested eight DUI drivers," Sanford said.
