TOCCOA -- Stephens County remained as the only unbeaten team in Region 8A-AAA after taking a 40-7 win over Lumpkin County Friday night.
Stephens County (7-1, 4-0 in subregion) still must beat North Hall on the road next week to secure the top spot in the subregion.
Stephens County scored the final 33 points of the game after Lumkpin County had scored to tie the game in the first quarter.
The game turned midway through the first half when Stephens County forced a Lumpkin County turnover inside the Stephens 5 and then scored on the ensuing possession to retake the lead.
Lumpkin County never recovered.
Chaz Thornton had another big game for Stephjens County with 235 yards rushing.
