Former Suwanee resident sentenced for human trafficking

ATLANTA - A Nigerian woman who lived in Suwanee has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for the human trafficking two young women from her native country.

Bidemi Bello brought the women to Georgia and forced them work as housekeepers and nannies at her Gwinnett County home.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan Coppedge says while Bello asked the judge for mercy, the victims were pleased with the tough sentence.

"They had been subject to physical and psychological abuse at the hands of Ms. Bello, and the judge simply told her [Bello]that she had shown no mercy to her victims," said Coppedge.

Coppedge also noted that Bello will lose her U.S. citizenship as a part of the sentence. She is to be deported to Nigeria once she completes her prison sentence.
