GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Police have released a description of the man who tried to rob a cab driver for Latin American Taxi Wednesday night and then stole his taxi.
Authorities said the suspect is a white or Hispanic male with a tall and slender build and was wearing a yellow shirt at the time of the robbery.
Lt. Floyd Canup of the Gainesville Police Department said the incident happened about 6:45 on North Avenue when a passenger in the cab demanded money. Canup said the driver resisted and was forced out of his taxi and to the ground.
The suspect then fled in the vehicle which was found a short time later, abandoned on the southside of Gainesville. Lt. Canup said tracking dogs were called in in an attempt to locate the suspect but were unsuccessful.
Canup said the cabbie was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
