BCSO loses veteran law enforcement officer

WINDER - Members of the Barrow County Sheriff's Office are mourning the loss of one of their own, Sgt. John Petty.

Sgt. Petty, 48, died of natural causes while off-duty on Saturday.

He was supervisor of the department's Crime Scene Investigations Unit and was responsible for the security and processing of evidence in all criminal cases.

Petty joined the Barrow County Sheriff's Office in July 2010 but was no stranger to law-enforcement. He had over 24 years of experience in law enforcement, devoting his entire career to the field.

The funeral will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2:00.
