TIGER -- Rabun County snapped a six-game losing streak to Fanning County dating back to 1993 with a surprising 35-21 win over the Rebels Friday night in what could turn out to be a crucial Region 8A-AA game for both teams.
The Wildcats (3-3, 1-1 Region 8N-AA) also snapped a current three-game losing streak and now are in the middle of the playoff race for the first time since 1999.
Quarterback Wes Holcombe paced Rabun County with two touchdown passes and running for another. Dillon Blakley and Devin Horner each caught one TD pass for the Wildcats. Dyllon Crabtree ran for a touchdown for Rabun County.
The Wildcats scored first but Fannin County tied the game in the second quarter before Rabun County scored 14 unanswered points to close out the first half to take control of the game. The Rebels (3-3, 0-2) cut the lead to 21-13 but Rabun answered with 14 consecutive points to put the game away.
Rabun County will travel to Banks County (4-2, 2-0) next week with a chance to move into at least a tie for second place with a win.
Fannin County will travel to East Hall (4-2, 2-0) trying to stay alive for one of the top two spots in the subregion.
