CORNELIA -- Merlene Hogsed, a multi-level pioneer in Habersham County, will be remembered in a funeral service at 4 p.m. Sunday at Level Grove Baptist Church.
Hogsed died Friday at her Cornelia home following an extended illness.
The founder of Habersham Retreat in 1980, she was the owner of the first personal care home and adult daycare in Habersham County.
She also served as the first female commissioner for the City of Cornelia. Later, she served as an active member of the Cornelia Planning and Zoning Board.
In addition, she was active with AARP Chapter 2040 and the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair, as well as the Cornelia Better Hometown Program.
