Computer swallowing Ga. tax refunds

By The Associated Press
MACON - A Macon television station reports that some Georgia taxpayers who receive refunds by direct deposit have seen the money disappear from their accounts.

WMAZ says several people in central Georgia have told the station the refunds showed up in their accounts, only to disappear again.

One taxpayer, Christina Summer, says a $141 refund turned up in her account but then disappeared.

WMAZ says the Georgia Department of Revenue reports a computer problem is causing the retracted refunds.

Melanie Butler, administrative assistant in the office of state Revenue Commissioner Douglas MacGinnitie, says the problem is being fixed and the refunds should be redeposited within about a week.
