MONROE -- The rollercoaster season of the Gainesville boys basketball team hit a high spot Friday night as the Red Elephants knocked off No. 3 Monroe Area 57-44 on the road.
Gainesville (11-6, 4-2 Region 8B-AAA) has alternated wins and losses in its last eight games. For Monroe Area (13-3, 4-2) it was the first back-to-back losses on the season after falling to No. 5 West Hall on Tuesday.
Shaquan Cantrell had a solid game recording a double-double for Gainesville with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Quon Holcomb paced the Elephants with 16 points.
Point guard Ken Jackson had 25 points to lead led Monroe Area.
Gainesville next will travel to Walnut Grove on Tuesday. The Warriors knocked off Gainesville two weeks ago, 73-67, in Gainesville.
