Laundry room fire at nursing home

GAINESVILLE - A fire occurred overnight in the laundry room at New Horizons Nursing Home in west Gainesville.

Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada says it occurred about 2:00 Saturday morning but was contained to a laundry room at the rear of the building.

Canada says the residents of the nursing home were never in danger and were not evacuated. He says the smoke and fire were kept out of the other areas at the Dawsonville Highway facility.

The fire started in a dryer but he said the cause has not been determined.
