ATLANTA - Some Georgia seniors struggling to pay their gas bills are getting help from the state.

The Georgia Public Service Commission has approved a $5 million grant to provide assistance to low-income senior citizens who are natural gas customers in the Atlanta Gas Light Company distribution area and other natural gas marketers in the area.

The companies will get $4 million to help qualified seniors, and the remaining funds will be distributed to the Salvation Army to provide additional relief.
The commission last allocated money for low-income natural gas customers in February 2008 as part of the Universal Service Fund.
