City BOE to decide Jan. 28 on remainder of make-up days

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Board of Education will use Feb. 21, originally scheduled as a furlough day, to make up one of this year's snow days.

A survey for parents, employees, and community is posted on the web-site as the city school systems seeks guidance on how to go about making up the other days. School officials said Tuesday night paper copies in both English and Spanish will be available at schools. The board is asking that the surveys be completed by Tuesday, January 25.

There will be a called meeting of the board on Friday, January 28, at noon, to make a decision based on the survey results on the remaining three days will be made up.

The Board elected new officers Tuesday night. Willie Mitchell was named Chairman; Maria Calkins, Vice-Chair; Delores Diaz, Treasurer; and Sammy Smith, Legislative Liasion.

Hugh McKinney was recognized as the Gainesville City Schools Teacher of the Year for 2010-11 and received a check from the Roy C. Moore Foundation and a recognition was presented from the state Department of Education to the school district for achieving target goals for Students with Disabilities.
