Hall BOE considers part of spring break for make-up days

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Board of Education Tuesday night discussed alternatives for making up school days missed so far this year because of snow and ice.

The board voted to reinstate February 21st as a regular school day but no further decisions were made because the state has to provide additional information about allowable options local systems have. However, if it is required that the system add more days, the week following the end of school and the first two days of spring break would be potential make up days. Board members and school officials also noted the potential for additional "inclement weather days" exists. Just last week alone, five days were missed because of the snowstorm that paralyzed most of north Georgia.

Also Tuesday night, Hall County Superior Court Judge swore in board members Bill Thompson, Sam Chapman and Brian Sloan. Thompson defeated veteran board member Richard Higgins last year; Chapman and Sloan were re-elected last year.

The board elected Nath Morris to serve as chairman this year and Craig Herrington, vice-chairman.

Charles Black Construction was approved as project manager for the East Hall High School addition and the board okayed a $300,000 grant application in conjunction with North Georgia College and State University and the Forsyth County School District for science professional learning
