CLARKESVILLE - The way is now clear for two Northeast Georgia men to go to trial in connection with an attack last summer on a Habersham County real estate developer.
Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell said true bills of indictment have now been returned against Harris Lee Jones and Casey Curbow in the shooting and beating of Fred Lovell in July. Curbow is charged with hiring Jones to attack Lovell.
Terrell said Jones confessed to the crime and told authorities where the weapons in the attack had been stashed.
"He even took us to where the firearm was located," Terrell said. "He had it hid off of Raper Mountain Road in an old tire off the side of the road."
Authorities said Lovell, owner of Lovell Mountain Properties, was shot twice in the head and once in the back outside of his home around 6:30 a.m. on July 4.
Terrell said Lovell has recovered and called his survival "a miracle."
"He's back to his routine of working everyday and feeling real good and is completely recovered from his injuries," he said.
Terrell said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was also actively involved in the case.
At this point, there's no word on a trial date.
