Dogs LB Dowtin to transfer

By The Associated Press
ATHENS -- Georgia linebacker Marcus Dowtin, who was fourth on the team in tackles in 2010, has been released so he can transfer to another school.

Georgia spokesman Claude Felton said Tuesday he has no additional information on Dowtin's plans.

Dowtin, a junior, did not play in Georgia's Liberty Bowl loss to Central Florida. Georgia coach Mark Richt recently learned Dowtin was charged with second-degree assault in Ocean City, Md., in May.

Dowtin's status in the bowl game was called as a coach's decision and not related to the charges, which have been resolved. He was with the team for the bowl trip after recording 57 tackles in the regular season.

Georgia had 12 players arrested or charged in 2010.
