ATLANTA - Officials in charge of Gov.-elect Nathan Deal's inauguration have canceled a Monday prayer breakfast and a celebration at Philips Arena because of a looming ice and snow storm.
In an e-mail Sunday, Deal's Inaugural Committee said "all nonessential inaugural activities have been canceled for Monday."
The new governor and other constitutional officers will take the oath of office at 2:30 p.m. Monday inside the Capitol. Deal encouraged Georgians to stay off the roads and watch the ceremony on Georgia Public Television or on the Internet at http://www.dealinaugural.com/tv.php .
The committee says tickets purchased for the inaugural celebration will be refunded.
Georgia is expected to be hit with up to 6 inches of snow beginning Sunday night.
