ATLANTA - The Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) Executive Director Kevin Clark has announced the approval of a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) loan and subsidy of $1.9 million to the city of Martin.
The loan and subsidy, approved by the GEFA executive committee, will finance improvements to the city's water distribution system, including a new well and water tank.
Martin is in Franklin County.
"Infrastructure improvements increase quality of life for Georgia citizens, and they help cities and counties create jobs and promote economic development," said Gov. Sonny Perdue. "I'm pleased this investment is being made in water system infrastructure."
"The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund assists local governments with their efforts to provide safe drinking water," said Kevin Clark. "In addition to the public s health and safety, these projects are critical to a community s ability to prosper economically."
GEFA helps communities prepare for economic growth and development by providing low-interest loans and grants. The DWSRF is a federal loan program administered by GEFA for drinking water infrastructure projects. The city of Martin will pay zero percent interest on a 20-year loan for $1,420,000 and will receive a Disadvantaged Community subsidy of $500,000.
