A 'snow' day becomes a 'furlough' day

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Board of Education decided Tuesday night that April 1, which was scheduled to be a furlough day, will, instead, be a regular school day.

December 16, the day that school was closed for inclement weather, will be used as a furlough day, instead.

The Board asked that Pre-K registration be delayed until March or April in the event that the state Legislature alters funding for Pre-K as lawmakers address the needs of the HOPE Scholarship.

The Board also discussed the Charter System Leadership Team and how its members could further be involved as advocates for the school system and learned from Janet Allison, Chief Financial Offier, that the school system made the last payment on December 29 toward the General Obligation Bonds that are funded through the millage rate. This leaves no additional debt that is serviced through property tax millage.
