Graves introduces bill defunding health care overhaul

ATLANTA - 9th District Congressman Tom Graves has filed legislation that would block the funding necessary to implement President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

The North Georgia Republican submitted the bill Wednesday on the first day of the new Congress. Republicans now hold a majority in the House.

Graves said in a statement that his bill would effectively end what he described as a costly and unconstitutional mandate on the country. He has also backed a bill by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor that would repeal the new health care law.

Graves campaigned against Obama's health care package when he won office last year. He succeeded Republican Rep. Nathan Deal, who stepped down to run for Georgia governor.
