Graves calls for prayer for Az. shooting victims

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-9) called Saturday for his constituents to join in praying for the Arizona congresswoman and the others who were shot in Tucson earlier in the day.

"I ask Georgians in the 9th Congressional district to join Julie and me in prayer for Representative Giffords and the many others who were attacked in this unspeakable tragedy," Graves said. "This terrible act of violence is an affront to the freedoms we cherish in America. Our hearts and minds are with the victims' families as we wait for more information on the condition of their loved ones."

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, an Arizona Democrat who was just starting her third term in Congress, was shot and at least five other people were killed, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl. At least a dozen other people were wounded. (See separate story.)
