NTSB: no mechanical problems with plane that landed on 85

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Authorities investigating why a small plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a busy stretch of Interstate 85 in northeast Atlanta say the aircraft had no signs of mechanical or engine problems.

Following the landing, pilot Matt Conway said the engine failed on Sept. 20, forcing the landing.

But a National Transportation Safety Board investigator tells WSBTV that authorities have concluded ``everything was working as designed.''

The Piper Saratoga landed on the highway without incident just as rush hour in Atlanta began. There were no injuries and no vehicles were damaged when the pilot was forced to turn the highway into an impromptu landing strip.

The plane was lifted onto a flatbed truck and removed from the highway hours after the incident.
