ROME -- After 110 minutes of play and two overtimes, the soccer teams from Brenau (1-5-1) and Berry (2-3-1) ended their match today in a 0-0 tie on Wednesday in Rome.
The game was a defensive struggle with Berry getting off 12 shots and the Tigers countering with seven of their own. All-Conference senior goalkeeper Lisa Lesnick added eight more saves and Berry's keeper had five.
Junior defender Tori Futrell was rock solid all day in the back, winning balls and starting counter-attacks for the Tigers and Hanna Martin won a lot of balls in the midfield. Outside midfielders Lauren Hagin and Erin Brooks were tireless all day and did a ton of running, both on offense and defense.
In spite of using only a couple of substitutes the whole game, the Tigers came out and owned the second overtime still trying to create attacking opportunities on a day when the heat was intense.
"This was probably the most organized I have seen our defense this year," said Coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We would have loved to come away with a win, but Berry is a solid team and to play them to a draw on the road is not a bad result at all."
The Tigers will return to action on Sept. 30 when they host NCAA II team Young Harris College at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex in Gainesville.
