Buford house fire

BUFORD - A two-story house in Buford went up in flames Monday morning.

The house is in the 2800 block of Sardis Drive, and Gwinnett County firefighters got the call about 11:15 from a passerby who saw a column of smoke and called 9-1-1.

Capt. Tommy Rutledge says the house was completely engulfed in flames when units arrived. The homeowners apparently are out of town, although an adult son who lived in the home arrived at the scene as firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze. He told authorities he left the home at 9:00 and nothing was out of the ordinary.

The home is a total loss. No word yet on the cause of the fire.
