WCC gets good financial report

CLEVELAND - White County's financial pictures is better than  many other northeast Georgia counties and the county commission points to planning  and the dedication of  department heads for it. 
  
At this week's commission meeting, Vicki Mays, Interim Finance Director, reported that the county ended the fiscal year with a little over $431,000 surplus.  Mays emphasized the figures are subject to change pending auditor's review, which will start later this month.
 
Mays also reported that the Hotel/Motel taxes  increased from $471,803 in 2009  to $660,610. Alcohol beverage tax and related fees increased by a little over  $100,000 to $159,825.   Fy-2010 Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) income was close to $2 million.

Commission chairman Travis Turner said, "We continue to be blessed in White County, we are  one of a few counties that doesn't have to rely on county employee furlough days to save money."   Commissioner Joe Campbell credited  County Manager Carol Jackson for her work in trimming the county's expenses.
