GMS makes AYP after all

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Middle School is now listed as making Adequately Yearly Progress (AYP) this year.

City schools superintendent Merrianne Dyer said Friday "due to the summer retakes and recalculations, the final determination is Gainesville Middle School has made Adequate Yearly Progress."

The middle school, along with New Holland Elementary, were the two city schools listed last month as not making AYP.

The system, itself, did not make AYP, but Dr. Dyer says that finding is being appealed based on the scores of twelve severly handicapped students.

"They take an alternate assessment and we did not have a clear understanding of the scoring on those."
