Suwanee considers programs targeting city parks, speeders

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
SUWANEE - Better monitoring of activities in city parks is on the agenda for Tuesday's Suwanee City Council as is consideration of a plan aimed at cracking down on speeders.

The City Council is to consider a contract - not to exceed $65,000 - for installation of a video surveillance system for the Suwanee parks system... including the Suwanee Creek Greenway.

Initially, the system would be installed along the greenway, in Suwanee Creek Park and at George Pierce Park.

SPEEDERS

Council also plans to vote on a program designed to crack down on speeders which includes procedures for Suwanee residents to request installation of radar signs.

Funding for these signs has been planned for each of the next three years in the city's Capital Improvement Program.

The City Council Tuesday is to consider a contract for $33,000 for the installation of the signs. This will pay for five signs, initially: on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road near Suwanee Creek, on Smithtown Road between Leaf Lake Drive and Timberlost Trail; on Main Street near PlayTown Square; on Settles Bridge Road between Barony Drive and Short Street; and, on McGinnis Ferry Road near McGinnis Reserve.
