CANTON -- On a night when the weather was definitely a factor, North Forsyth's Tyler Slaton somehow had little trouble navigating through the Cherokee defense.
The senior running back ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns in a monsoon to lead the Raiders to a 14-3 win over Cherokee in both teams' season openers Friday night.
Slaton got the Raiders (1-0) on the board early capping an opening drive with a 33-yard touchdown run. The score stayed that way through halftime.
North Forsyth struck again quickly to open the second half with Slaton capping the drive with a 2-yard TD run to make it 14-0 after Cole Allison converted his second extra point. Cherokee got its only points on its next drive with Mark Vale booting a 26-yard field goal.
The Raiders finished with 232 total yards of offense
