Flowery Branch PD deals with string of scams

FLOWERY BRANCH - Several suspects are in custody and several others are still on the loose following a string of fraud schemes in Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch Police Lt. David Spillers said a woman linked to a nationwide credit card counterfeiting scheme was arrested on Friday. He said another woman involved in the scheme evaded arrest.

Spillers said two men then tried to cash a forged check at the Publix supermarket on Spouts Springs Road on Monday.

"After those two were dealt with we located a van in a nearby parking lot that had four other subjects in the van, and we located 17 additional forged checks," said Spillers.

He said the checks were Bank of America checks drawn on the account of Hackett Lawn and Garden Company in Dalton, Ga. The arrested were identified as 21-year-old Antoine J. Oliver, 29-year-old Aaron J. Davis, 22-year-old Lamar J. Baker, 30-year-old Robert J. Price, 18-year-old Chelcia L. Weston and 20-year-old Kiana L. Weston. All of the suspects have been charged with 17 counts of forgery.

Spillers said officers are also looking for another suspect who tried to use a fake traveler's check Tuesday night at the Chili's restaurant. He identified that suspect as 38-year-old Eric Deshawn Thomas.

Spillers said the recent arrests should serve as a warning to people in the area, especially business owners.

"The merchants really need to be careful," he said.
