Rains wash out Lanier Point Invitational

GAINESVILLE -- Rains in the northeast Georgia area forced the final two rounds and bracket play of the 9th annual Lanier Point Invitational Softball Tournament to be canceled saturday.

Play resumed Saturday morning and teams were able to get in one round before heavy rains caused tournament officials to cancel the remaining rounds.

Union County, White County, Fannin County, and Habersham Central all went undefeated in two games of round-robin play.

Tournament officials may try to resume the tournament next Aug. 21 at Lanier Point Park depending on how many teams would be able to continue. Some teams already have scheduling conflicts.
