EHHS faces some opening day challenges

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - Work crews did not get everything completed for the first day of school at East Hall High School...specifically, the repaving of a student parking lot.

Hall County Schools spokesman Gordon Higgins said the seniors will be inconvenienced for a few days.

"It'll probably take two or three days to complete that [the repaving]," said Higgins. "In the interim, East Hall seniors are parking at the East Hall stadium."

Shuttle buses will be on hand to get the seniors to and from the school each morning and afternoon until the work is completed. Higgins said if a student needs to leave early for a work-study program or has an emergency, the shuttle will be available to travel to the stadium. He emphasized no student will need to walk to the stadium to get to a car.

In addition, renovation is underway on the East Hall High cafeteria.

"Despite that important renovation, lunch will be served every day at East Hall High School," said Higgins. "A hot lunch, not a sack lunch."

Higgins noted that classes will not be interrupted by construction work.

"The construction, for the most part, is going on outside the building with the expansion taking place, so it will not impede student safety at all," said Higgins.

The cafeteria renovation project probably will not be complete until the Christmas holidays, according to Higgins.
